WhatsApp users can now hide their IP address during calls

Calls to WhatsApp messenger can now be made more secure. However, enabling new protection settings may affect the sound quality.

Messenger users now have a new feature called IP Address Protection during Calls, which allows them to hide their IP address from the other party. This is done through the WhatsApp relay service.

“After activating [the feature], calls will be relayed through Meta or WhatsApp servers, thus hiding your real IP address,” explains the owner of the Meta messenger in his blog post.

Those who are particularly concerned about privacy can take advantage of this feature by enabling protection in the Privacy section of the settings.

At the same time, WhatsApp warns that if your calls are protected in this way, the sound quality may be worse.

“Call quality may deteriorate when using call relay. As always, your WhatsApp calls are protected by end-to-end encryption. No one, not even WhatsApp, can listen to them,” the company emphasizes.

Earlier, NV Techno wrote that WhatsApp has a feature that allows you to mute calls from unknown numbers. This opportunity was provided to users after customers from India complained about the increase in the number of spam calls in the messenger.
