XM1155-SC: new high-precision artillery ammunition with a range of over 110 km
BAE Systems has developed the XM1155-SC, a next-generation artillery projectile designed to enhance long-range precision fire capabilities. The XM1155-SC artillery ammunition is being developed to increase the range of 155 mm artillery shells to more than 110 kilometers.
In 2022, BAE Systems conducted the first firing of the XM1155-SC from the XM907E2 155mm Extended Range Artillery Cannon (ERCA) test bed. The projectile hit a stationary target at ranges exceeding the capabilities of previous precision-guided projectiles.
The XM1155-SC is designed to penetrate and destroy enemy defenses with its extended range, improved targeting and lethality. This includes the development of a highly maneuverable projectile with low drag, capable of engaging a wide range of target types in difficult operational environments.
With its ability to engage targets over 110 kilometers away, more than double the range of existing precision artillery launch munitions, the XM1155-SC extends the range of artillery units. This extended range allows troops to hit strategic targets deep in enemy territory while remaining out of range of enemy fire.
This capability is crucial for shaping the battlefield before a direct engagement, disrupting enemy logistics, command and control centers, and supporting maneuvers at a distance.
What’s more, the XM1155-SC’s precision guidance ensures that it can accurately engage both stationary and moving targets. This level of precision minimizes collateral damage and allows you to selectively engage important targets even when GPS signals may be degraded or disabled.
