Those who expected a price reduction will be disappointed: the price of a new Starlink dish has been announced
SpaceX said in the company’s email invitation that its newest Starlink dish will cost $599.
A Starlink subscriber posted a screenshot of the email on Reddit. The price of $599 means that the new antenna will cost the same as Starlink’s current hardware kit, which includes a second-generation dish and a Gen 2 Wi-Fi router.
Therefore, consumers hoping for a reduction in prices will be disappointed. But the upside is that the product, which the company has dubbed the new “standard” model, does not receive a price increase. SpaceX plans to initially sell it to selected users in the United States through an invitation system before rolling out a wider release.
Another positive point is that the new antenna also includes a Gen 3 Wi-Fi 6 router. SpaceX is already selling the Wi-Fi router 6 to select customers as a standalone product for $199 before the full release in January.
The invitation to purchase the new antenna goes on to say: “The next generation of Starlink is thinner and more portable, with a sleeker design than its predecessor. This Starlink kit also includes our Gen 3 router with improved range and speed.”
However, the invitation does not say whether the dish offers any speed improvements over older Starlink consumer dish models. As a result, existing subscribers who have already paid to own older equipment are not convinced that the new Starlink dish is worth buying.
