Microsoft will continue to provide security updates for Windows 10 until 2028

Microsoft has announced that it will continue to provide security updates for the Windows 10 operating system after the end of its standard support.

The corporation’s blog says that after October 2025 (when the Windows 10 lifecycle ends), the system will continue to receive patches for at least three years, until October 2028.

Updates will be provided as part of the ESU (Extended Security Updates) program, which previously existed for Windows 7. It is an annual paid subscription for organizations and businesses and includes only critical and important security patches.

According to Ars Technica, unlike Windows 7, this time Microsoft intends to offer ESU to private users of Windows 10. Details and prices have not yet been announced.

This is due to the still high popularity of Windows 10, which still accounts for 68% of the desktop OS market. Windows 11 is installed on only 26.63% of PCs.
