China succeeds in deploying superfast laser communication in space
Dr. Zhao Hongjie, Executive Vice President of Nationstar Aerospace, speaking on Chinese TV, said that China has implemented laser communication at a speed of 10 Gbps in outer space.
“For example, we need less than 1 second to complete the transfer of a 1 GB movie from Earth to the Chinese space station,” said Zhao Hongjie.
He also added that in the future, the speed could increase 10 times and reach 100G (100 Gbps).
Last June, the Chinese Academy of Sciences made a breakthrough in laser high-speed communication. At that time, the Jilin-1 satellite was launched, with which it was possible to establish communication at a speed of 10 Gbps from a ground station.
