Air Defense Forces destroy 72 Russian missiles over Ukraine, including 10 “daggers” and 3 “calibers”

On the morning of Tuesday, January 2, the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces destroyed 72 out of 99 Russian missiles: 10 Kinzhal air defense missiles and 3 Kalibr cruise missiles.

This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi.

According to him, on the night of January 2, the Russians actually repeated the massive attack of December 29, 2023, using various types of air attack weapons. This time, the main focus of the attack was Kyiv, Espresso writes.

The occupiers attacked Ukraine from strategic aviation. Around 06:00, 16 Tu-95MS bombers reached the launch line and launched at least 70 X-101/X-555/X-55 air-launched cruise missiles.

An hour and a half later, at 07:30, ten X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles were launched from MiG-31K fighters.

“The enemy also attacked from the sea with three Kalibr cruise missiles, and from the north with 12 missiles flying along the Iskander-M/S-300/S-400 ballistic trajectory. Four X-31P anti-radar missiles were used from Su-35 tactical aircraft,” the statement said.

Zaluzhnyi noted that in total, the Russians launched 99 missiles of various types. Air defense forces destroyed 72 of them:

  • 10 out of 10 X-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles
  • 59 out of 70 cruise missiles X-101/X-555/X-55;
  • 3 of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles

On the evening and night of January 2, the Russians again launched attack drones on Ukrainian territory after the daytime attack: air defense was operating in Kyiv and Mykolaiv regions. Later it became known that the Defense Forces had destroyed all 35 attack drones that had attacked Ukraine.

Later, the Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine from strategic aviation. A series of explosions occurred in Kyiv and Kharkiv. As a result of the attack, people were killed and wounded, and houses were destroyed.
