Iraqi police found a Houthi Quds cruise missile and a truck-based launcher.
This is reports the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).
The rocket was found in the city of Babylon. Apparently, it was unable to take off and went off the guide, after which it was abandoned in the middle of the city.
“The use of Iranian munitions by terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria endangers Coalition forces and local civilians. The Coalition is grateful to Iraq’s legitimate security forces for their efforts to prevent future attacks,” the statement said.CENTCOM.
Initially, it was believed that the Quds missile was developed by its main operators, the Houthis. However, a more detailed analysis and demonstration of similar samples at the exhibition of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps made it clear that this was an Iranian development.
It is also possible that Quds is a cheaper version of the Iranian Soumar missile.
According to unconfirmed reports, the main engine is an unlicensed copy of the TJ-100 turbojet engine manufactured by the Czech company PBS Velká Bíteš.
The exact technical characteristics of the missile are unknown, but it is known that its weight is approximately 450 kilograms.
Based on the published CENTCOM photo suggests that these are Quds of the first or second generation.
The Quds of these series have a declared range of up to 1650 kilometers, which makes them a very dangerous weapon.
