All roads in the country will be blocked: Polish farmers announced a major protest over the import of Ukrainian grain
Polish farmers announced a major national protest on January 24 due to the deteriorating situation in the industry and the influx of agricultural imports from Ukraine. They want to close roads across the country for two hours.
This was reported by Rolnik info.
Farmers will take to the streets to protest against grain imports from Ukraine, against the European Union and ideas that they believe want to severely limit crop and livestock production in Poland and the EU. The protest will be attended by farmers from Banja, Piżycze, Myslibuż, Kozielice, Lipianów, Trzcinsko-Zdrój, and Przelewice.
The upcoming protests have already been supported by the National Council of Agricultural Chambers.
- On November 6, Polish carriers went on strike on the border with Ukraine, blocking three checkpoints for freight traffic: “Korczowa-Krakowiec, Hrebenne-Rava-Ruska, and Dorohusk-Yagodyn. The main demand of the carriers is to cancel the so-called transport visa-free regime for Ukrainian international carriers. On December 27, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Poland is close to ending the blockade of the Ukrainian border.
- In addition to carriers, Polish farmers also blocked the border. They restricted the movement of trucks at the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint, demanding subsidies for the purchase of corn and to leave the agricultural tax unchanged. However, after negotiations with the new government, on January 7, they refused to block the border.
- On January 16, Polish carriers who blocked checkpoints on the border with Ukraine reached an agreement with the government and agreed to suspend their protest in three settlements – Korchova, Hrebenne, Dorohusk. According to the agreement, the blockade will be lifted by March 1. During this time, the Polish government is committed to solving the problems of carriers.
