American A-10 “warthogs” may replace Ukrainian Su-25s

Ukrainian officials are showing interest in purchasing A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft for the national air force. The new Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky, complimented these vehicles, noting their effectiveness and exceptional reliability in most combat situations.

The A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft, nicknamed “Warthog” or “Hog” (from the English Warthog and Hog, respectively), was developed by Fairchild Republic in the seventies of the XX century specifically for close air support of ground forces. Its main task is to attack armored vehicles and tanks, providing protection for ground troops. In addition, the A-10 can also direct other aircraft to attack ground targets.

The single-seat twin-turbine attack aircraft has high protection and powerful armament, which makes it an effective tool in combat conditions.

However, there are political obstacles that may prevent Ukraine from getting a party of “warthogs.” This refers to the blocking of any further assistance to Ukraine by pro-Russian members of the US Congress, which began in the fall of 2023.
