The demand for long-term storage food and special survival kits, which are commonly used by travelers and the military, is growing among Polish residents
Instead, experts advise Poles to take care of the safety of documents and access to their own accounts and clouds on the Internet, Fakt.pl reports.
“Some people buy rice and canned food in supermarkets, others in military stores. There is a long list of things you can order online. From a “hot can” for 32 zlotys (self-heating baked beans) to the daily rations of the American army for 75 zlotys. We also found energy chocolate for 15 zlotys,” the report says.
And those who spend 41 zlotys will receive a food ration that can be consumed for 20 years.
In a military store in Łódź, a survival kit costs 43 zlotys and includes, among other things, a pork shoulder with rice, crackers, sachet water, energy jelly and two coffee candies.
At the same time, Roman Polko, a Polish retired general and former commander of the Grom special forces, considers it inappropriate to prepare for long-term provision of such kits.
“I don’t know if anyone would want to stay in a bunker or basement for three years… Even if we gave them two tons of pasta and 50 bottles of water, they would not stay there. Now people are trying to live in decent conditions. Can anyone live for several years in the woods with a sleeping bag, pasta and a lighter? Hunt everything that moves? Eat tailless rats and earthworms?” he commented at the request of Fakt.pl, adding that it is worth having some stocks of food such as rice and cereals, because if the fighting starts, there will be problems with the delivery of goods to stores.
General Polko’s advice concerns documents, finances, and the use of the Internet.
“You need to know exactly where the documents are in the house. In case of danger, you need to evacuate immediately, not look for papers. Without documents, refugees from war zones have problems even accessing their own money. This is a protection that will help you function in normal conditions. If you do not have access to your own cloud on the Internet, you will not be able to prove who you are and what you have,” the military said.
In addition, transportation “to take you to the safe zone” should be ready.
We should not forget about friendly relations with relatives and caring for each other, added Polish General Roman Polko.
