Ukrainian combat system DELTA successfully passes tests for compatibility with NATO systems

The team of the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine proved the possibility of sharing a complete operational picture between different NATO member states and NATO-developed systems.

About DELTA

This is a situational awareness platform created by the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Aerial Intelligence NGO. It collects data from various sources: drone reconnaissance, satellite images, radio intercepts, and NATO data.

The system allows you to see the battlefield in real time, exchange information within a unit, brigade, grouping, and, if necessary, with allies. It contains information about the enemy from aerial reconnaissance, satellites, drones, fixed cameras, radars, chatbots, etc.

Three representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine recently took part in the NATO Coalition Command exercise. They demonstrated the Ukrainian battlespace management system called DELTa for its interoperability in the NATO environment, the Alliance said in a statement.

The system was praised by NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Philip Lavin, and the Deputy Chief of Staff for NATO Capability Development, Vice Admiral Jeffrey W. Hughes during its presentation, the Aerial Intelligence NGO noted.

After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the number of services that DELTA provided to Ukrainian soldiers on the front line increased significantly. The new functionality is based on feedback from the field. This allows DELTA developers to release new features frequently.

Today, the capabilities of the complex allow the Ukrainian military to receive:

  • situational awareness;
  • streaming video from unmanned aerial vehicles and fixed cameras;
  • for a chat room;
  • planning tools and a synchronization matrix for reconnaissance and target acquisition assets;
  • integration of robotic systems.

At NATO’s CWIX24 exercise, the DELTA development team wanted to test the compatibility of key integration standards to be able to resolve any technical issues before Ukraine receives additional weapons from the West. During the first three years of Ukraine’s participation in CWIX, they tested only one interoperability standard in one of the focus areas. The following year, they tested four standards, and in 2024, they tested 5 different standards used in 13 priority areas.

They also participated in some of the new priority areas and operational scenarios to prove the same capabilities they experienced firsthand in Ukraine. The goal is for DELTA to become the most effective integration platform in various security areas.

“The team of the Defense Technology Innovation and Development Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has proven the possibility of sharing a complete operational picture between different Allies and NATO-developed systems. This includes the exchange of data from air, sea, land, cyber and space, as well as medical and logistics data in the appropriate interoperability protocols so that they can also be shared between countries,” NATO said.

Aerorazvedka recalled that the DELTA system has also recently been successfully integrated with the Polish artillery fire control system TOPAZ. “DELTA is an ecosystem of various military products. We call it Google for the military, because after one login you get access to various tools of the system,” said Yelyzaveta Boyko, the system’s developer.
