The Armed Forces of Ukrain shot down the Iranian Shahed-136 attack drone for the first time

UAVs from Iran were supposed to significantly strengthen the power of the Russian Armed Forces, but the Ukrainians know how to shoot them down.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded the destruction of an Iranian attack drone used by Russian troops for the first time. This became known to the ‘Military’ portal.

An officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a military engineer named Maksym posted on Twitter photos of a UAV shot down on the outskirts of the recently liberated city of Kupyansk, Kharkiv Region. According to the author, the attack drone was made in Iran and was probably used by the Russians.

As ‘Militaryny’ drew attention, the remains of the device bear the inscription ‘M214 Gran-2’ in Cyrillic, but the body looks identical to the Iranian Shahed-136 long-range kamikaze attack drones — this model has stabilizers on the wing of the same shape. Previously, no case of collision with such drones on the territory of Ukraine was reported.

In late 2021, Iran demonstrated that the Shahed-136 could be launched using a launcher disguised as a truck container. The exact characteristics of the Iranian army are not disclosed, but according to the Military Factory website, the UAV is a barrage munition that can be launched several times in so-called swarms. It has a wide triangular wing with stabilizing rudders at the ends. The warhead and optical guidance systems are hidden in the front part of the hull, the engine and two-blade propeller are located in the rear part, which provides a flight range of about 2 thousand km.

Previously, we wrote about the characteristics of Iran’s most dangerous drones: Shahed-129, Shahed-191, Fortros. These drones can conduct reconnaissance from high altitudes and hit targets with missiles.

It was also reported that Russia received Iranian drones of two types: Mohajer-6 and Shahed (the exact models are unknown). According to sources, Russian troops can use these UAVs on the territory of Ukraine to search for and destroy targets, as well as to conduct radio-electronic reconnaissance.

The Air Force of Ukraine urged not to be afraid of Iranian attack drones, as they can be shot down by air defense systems.
