The Russian Navy has only one aircraft carrier in service. It is called ‘Admiral Kuznetsov’ and today it caught fire in the city of Murmansk, where it is being repaired.
The flagship of the Russian Navy and the Northern Fleet has been in an inoperable state for several years. In 2018, after concluding a contract for modernization and restoration of technical readiness, the ship went to the ‘Zirochka’ ship repair plant in Murmansk.
In the same year, during launching, an accident occurred – a crane fell on the deck. A year later, the aircraft carrier caught fire when a spark entered the hold, where fuel had been spilled. In this regard, additional repair work was required, and the transfer of the ship to the Navy was postponed until 2024.
On December 22, a fire broke out again during repairs. Russian media reports that the fire was extinguished. Currently, it is reported that all employees have been successfully evacuated. Three years ago, two people died and several others were injured as a result of a fire.
