Google is developing an analogue of finding a lost iPhone for Android-based smartphones
Google is preparing to launch its own version of the Apple Find My network for Android devices. Relevant information is contained in the Play System update.
The novelty will allow users to track lost/stolen devices both when they are turned off and when there is no connection to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The name of the product developed by the American technology giant is Find My Device. The description of the new product mentions a ‘privacy-oriented structure’ and encrypted reports on the last known location.
This network will enable users to track lost or stolen Android devices even if they are not connected to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and turned off. In 2021, there were rumors that Google was working on creating such a network, but so far there has been no particular success.
The Play System update includes a number of new features in addition to the Find My Device network. These options include automatic archiving of applications when memory space is low and support for Digital Car Key for Xiaomi phones (previously only available on some Samsung and Pixel devices). The update also enables Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 2 users to manage their payment cards linked to the Google Wallet app via their wearable devices.
Google is improving the document verification process by checking the quality of uploaded ID images. These changes are part of the Google Play Services v50.22 and Google Play Store v33.5 updates.
The Google Play Services update was released on December 15, and the Google Play Store update started rolling out three days earlier (from December 12).
