The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions against 10 Russian naval structures due to Russian military operations that damage Ukrainian ports.
The US State Department announced new sanctions.
“In connection with Russia’s naval operations, which are damaging Ukrainian ports, including those that supply the world with much-needed food and grain, the United States today imposes sanctions against Russian naval structures,” the Secretary of State said in a statement. Anthony Blinken.
The State Department said the six entities targeted by the sanctions were included on the list because they operate in the maritime and defense sectors. Another four organizations were included in the list for activities in the maritime sector of the Russian economy.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Oksana Markarova, reported in more detail on her Facebook page which Russian structures are subject to sanctions:
- JOINT STOCK COMPANY BATTERY COMPANY RIGEL, which for more than 15 years provides a full cycle of development, production and supply of lithium batteries for the Ministry of Defense of Russia;
- JOINT STOCK COMPANY CONCERN CENTRAL INSTITUTE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ELEKTROPRIBOR, produces navigation systems for Russian warships and focuses on ensuring high combat capability of submarine forces of the Russian Navy;
- JOINT STOCK COMPANY CONCERN AVRORA SCIENTIFIC AND PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION provides warranty and service for submarines and surface ships of the Russian Navy;
- CONCERN MORINFORMSYSTEM AGAT JOINT STOCK COMPANY specializes in the development, production and maintenance of combat information systems, fire control systems at sea, cruise and ballistic missiles;
- CENTRAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF STRUCTURAL MATERIALS PROMETEY, engaged in naval shipbuilding and development of military equipment;
- JOINT STOCK COMPANY CENTRAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF MARINE ENGINEERING, is engaged in the development and supply of marine equipment installed on Russian merchant and military ships;
- P.P. SHIRSHOV INSTITUTE OF OCEANOLOGY OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, specializes in the development of remotely controlled and autonomous robotic means that perform search and reconnaissance tasks for the Russian Navy;
- TECHNOPOLE COMPANY produces the “PHINS” navigation system intended for installation on Russian warships;
- JOINT STOCK COMPANY OBUKHOVSKOYE, works with the Military Industry of the Russian Federation;
- MARINE BRIDGE AND NAVIGATION SYSTEMS LTD, which is responsible for installing security components on Russian Navy warships,” the ambassador said in a message.
“The United States, as before, is determined to take all necessary measures to deter Russian attacks on Ukraine – be it air, land or sea attacks. These prosecutions underscore a simple message: the Kremlin must stop its brutal campaign against Ukraine,” State Secretary Anthony Blinken said in commenting on the sanctions.
Ukraine said its Black Sea port of Odesa was down for a day earlier this month, while Chornomorsk and Pivdenny ports were only partially operational after a Russian attack on the region’s energy system.
All three mentioned ports export grain in accordance with the grain agreement brokered by the UN and Turkey.
