Ukraine has an alternative to Starlink satellite communication
The new aid package includes SATCOM satellite terminals with prepaid satellite communication services. They will be used in Ukraine in parallel with Starlink terminals.
Wideband Global SATCOM is owned by the US Space Force. In addition to the Pentagon, this satellite communication system is used by the Canadian and Australian armies. Ground-based satellite terminals are used to connect to WGS satellites. The system provides high data transmission speed.
By the way, in the United States, the WGS system is used not only by the military. For example, the White House and the State Department use it to provide a secure mode for broadcasting video conferences. The US Army uses WGS for battle management, intelligence and tactical operations.
The nomenclature and characteristics of the equipment included in the defense support package are not disclosed by the Pentagon. It is known that the SATCOM terminals are capable of operating in four bands. The time to deploy them to a new location is 30 minutes. No special tools are required for this.
