The world’s fastest electric car is preparing to set a Nürburgring record (video)

The Rimac Nevera was caught at the Nürburgring, apparently preparing to set a lap record.

The Rimac Nevera in the livery inspired by the BMW 3 Series E30 EV Mate Rimac conversion is back. After setting 23 records at the Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP), the electric hypercar visited the Nürburgring. But why?

Deliveries to customers have begun, so the development should be completed by now. Perhaps the Croatian brand is testing a new version. Most likely, the energy is spent on test laps to get to know the incredibly difficult Green Hell.

In order to win the title of the Ring Winner among electric cars, the Nevera had to be faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The high-speed sedan from Zuffenhausen covered the distance in 7 minutes and 33 seconds. Given the incredible performance of the silent hypercar, the Nevera should have no trouble knocking the competition off the podium.

Technically, the Taycan Turbo S is not the fastest road-legal electric vehicle to have driven around the North Loop, as the Nio EP9 did so in 6 minutes and 45 seconds in May 2017. However, this car was produced in only 16 units, so it is not considered a true production car. The Rimac Nevera is not so exclusive, as it is produced in a run of 150 cars at an incredible price of $2.4 million per car.

Keep in mind that there is an even faster electric car that has completed the Ring. In June 2019, the Volkswagen ID.R took only 6 minutes and 5 seconds to do this. The overall record belongs to Porsche and its 919 Hybrid Evo, which completed a lap of the Nürburgring in an incredible 5 minutes and 19 seconds in June 2018.

It will be interesting to see how the Nevera fares, as heavy cars and lots of corners are not an ideal combination. It weighs 2300 kilograms. But, again, it is equipped with quad motors that produce a combined power of 1914 horsepower and 2360 Newton meters of torque.

23 records have shown that nothing can beat him in a straight line, so now he needs to prove that he can also go fast in the corners.
