Ukrainian helicopters to receive AMPS anti-missile system from Hensoldt
Hensoldt, which operates in the German market, will supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with AMPS anti-missile systems. The Bundeswehr uses them in tandem with NH90 helicopters. The AMPS system is capable of detecting surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles in order to blind them.
The composition of AMPS depends on the configuration. An anti-missile system can include cameras, laser sensors, and radar detectors. The extended modification of AMPS-MD also includes an active countermeasure complex. It is designed to blind infrared-guided missiles.
In total, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive 16 anti-missile systems from the German company. Their exact cost is kept secret. It is known that the contract amount is several tens of millions of euros. The integration of German anti-missile systems into Ukrainian helicopters will be carried out by LOM Praha engineers.
In 2019, Airbus signed a contract with Hensoldt to supply AMPS systems. The French aircraft manufacturer purchased them for H145M helicopters. Last year, the Bundeswehr placed an order to equip 82 NH90 units with anti-missile systems. Thus, AMPS was installed on all German combat helicopters.
