HIMARS destroyed a rare Russian 2C5 Hyacinth-C howitzer along with a Grad missile system and a 2C1 Gvozdika rocket launcher
The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to effectively use American M142 HIMARS missile systems. Moreover, while the complex used to destroy ammunition depots, it is now more often used to eliminate Russian artillery.
Recently, we wrote about the destruction of four Msta-S self-propelled artillery systems by four GMLRS precision-guided missiles. This time, the Defense Forces eliminated two howitzers and one multiple rocket launcher system.
The M142 HIMARS system in the hands of the 43rd Separate Artillery Brigade destroyed a rather rare 152 mm self-propelled howitzer 2C5 Hyacinth-C. According to Oryx analysts, the Russians have already lost at least 26 such systems.
Along with it, a more common howitzer, the 2C1 Gvozdika of 122 mm caliber, was destroyed. The liquidation of 47 artillery pieces since February 24, 2022 has been documented. About a dozen more units were captured by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The third target of HIMARS was the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher. The Oryx website states that the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed, damaged or captured 135 BM-21 Grads in 16 months.
