Thanks to artificial intelligence, San Francisco tech companies are hiring again
After a period of layoffs, San Francisco tech firms have begun actively hiring new employees. The main incentive for this was the high activity in the field of artificial intelligence.
In May, San Francisco and the nearby San Mateo County opened 2,800 new tech jobs. Thus, almost half of the jobs lost since the big wave of layoffs in 2022 have been restored, Bloomberg reports.
The equity market, particularly for large technology companies, is performing very well this year. This usually indicates that companies will be hiring new employees.
The main players in the artificial intelligence market in San Francisco are OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and Anthropic. Both companies are actively hiring new employees, although it is not known exactly how many jobs have been created in each of these cities.
The new jobs are good news for San Francisco, which is still struggling to recover from the pandemic. Many employers have left their offices and switched to remote work, so the vacancy rate in the city has hit a record high of almost 32%.
