Ukrainian defense industry develops “Coral” and RK-10 air defense systems

Ukraine is developing two new air defense systems at once. We are talking about the Coral and RK-10 systems. This became known from Oleksandr Kamishin, who holds the position of Minister of Strategic Industry.

On Telegram, the official said that several projects are in the works. Last month, two projects entered the flight test stage. In both cases, the tests were successful. The minister did not provide any details. He only accompanied his post with a photo of a Coral anti-aircraft missile.

The development of the Coral air defense system began in 2016 on the initiative of Stepan Poltorok. It was entrusted to Luch Design Bureau specialists. It is known that the Coral missile is capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 40 kilometers.

The second project involves the development of the RK-10 air defense system. It is also being implemented by Luch Design Bureau. At the end of winter 2021, the design bureau released a video of the firing tests of this SAM. The range of the missile from the RK-10 is 10 km.

At the same time, there is a possibility of improving the Soviet Buk and Kub systems to adapt them to the US AIM-7 Sparrow missiles. This is a forced step due to the growing shortage of ammunition. AIM-7s are not in demand. A huge number of such missiles are stored in allied warehouses. The range of the AIM-7 is 19 km.
