The occupiers have started using a new Gibki-S system based on the Tiger armored vehicle at the front.

The relevant photos appeared in Russian telegram channels.

“Gibka-S was developed on the basis of the 3M-47 Gibka marine complex. The anti-aircraft missile system uses missiles from Igla and Verba man-portable air defense systems. At present, the Russian Federation does not report how many vehicles are already at the front and how many of them have already been used in combat operations. However, Defense Express analyzed what the Russian complex is capable of.

“Gibko-S” at the frontline

In fact, the Gibki-S is a Tiger armored vehicle with 4 MANPADS mounted on its roof and 4 more in reserve. The system is said to be capable of intercepting up to three air targets simultaneously. The crew of the complex consists of up to three people, but it is declared to operate in autonomous mode or by targeting from the Harmon mobile radar. In this case, the radar should be installed on a separate machine.

The characteristics of the Gibki-S depend on the MANPADS model:

  • the range of destruction from the Igla-S MANPADS is 6 km;
  • the height of defeat from the Igla-S MANPADS is 3.5 km;
  • the range of the Verba MANPADS is 6.5 km;
  • the height of defeat from the “Verba” man-portable air defense system is up to 4.5 km;

The complex was presented in 2016, and the start of mass production is expected to begin in 2021. However, there is currently no data on whether the Russian Armed Forces have started receiving them since then. The publication admits that the occupiers may use the Gibki-S to fight Ukrainian drones.
