Ukrainian air defense to be reinforced with two additional NASAMS systems

The Kingdom of Norway has announced a new defense support package. A message about this appeared on the Norwegian Defense Ministry’s Twitter account the day before.

It states that the package will include additional Fire Control Centers (2 units), launchers (2 units), and spare parts for them. According to Bjørn Arild Gram, the equipment supplied by Norway will provide flexibility, redundancy and endurance to the air defense systems already transferred.

The Ukrainian army received the first NASAMS systems last year. They have proven to be an effective air defense system. NASAMS was developed by Raytheon and Konsberg engineers. To intercept targets, they use modified AIM-120s from the F-16. The range of an anti-aircraft missile can reach 40 km. It can hit targets at altitudes up to 16 km. The declared response time of the NASAMS SAMS is 10 seconds.

In July, the Lithuanian government promised to provide Ukraine with two NASAMS missile launchers. In turn, Germany announced at the Vilnius summit the delivery of two launchers for the Patriot system.
