Tesla introduces solar charging for electric cars to reduce electricity costs
Tesla has announced the introduction of the revolutionary Solar Charging feature, which will allow owners of its electric cars to charge their vehicles solely using excess energy generated by the car’s solar system.

The Solar Charging option requires the modernization of both the Tesla car and the Powerwall, which acts as a home battery system. To access this eco-friendly charging method, electric car owners need to make sure that their car is running on version 2023.26 or later. In addition, Tesla Powerwall must be updated to version 23.12.10 or later. For the most efficient coordination between the car and the Powerwall, you need to update the Tesla mobile app to version 4.22.5.
Once these works are completed, e-mobility owners can enable the Solar Charging function through the Tesla app. This feature allows users to customize their charging preferences (set charge limits, choose a preferred charging location, etc.) This level of personalization ensures that the charging of an electric vehicle is tailored to its unique energy needs.
To optimize the charging process from solar panels, electric cars equipped with the “Charge On Solar” function constantly monitor the charging status online. The system automatically adjusts the charging level every 10 seconds. It is also possible to schedule the time of solar charging.
The feature is available exclusively for Tesla Powerwalls. Those with third-party batteries will not be able to use the Charge On Solar feature.
