Mobileye has taught artificial intelligence to read road signs to regulate car speed
Self-driving car technology developer Mobileye has introduced a new system designed to determine the correct speed limit.
Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) not only automatically reads the numbers on speed signs, but can also decipher illustrated signs. Based on the information received, the system automatically adjusts the vehicle’s speed.
Mobileye is introducing the world’s first vision-only Intelligent Speed Assist solution following its homologation across Europe.

In addition to recognizing signs in the camera’s field of view, the system can detect signatures of upcoming signs, read text when entering a city, and make decisions based on the type of road even in the absence of signs.
According to Mobileye, 400 petabytes of driving videos recorded around the world were used to develop ISA.
ISA is certified in 27 EU countries, as well as in Israel, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey. The system will first be integrated by a “major global automaker into two car brands” and then will be installed on some models in Europe at the end of this year.
ISA is scheduled to be launched on cars from three other automakers in 2024.
