Russian businessman Oleg Tinkov was placed under British sanctions a month after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
On July 20, the United Kingdom lifted personal sanctions imposed on Russian businessman and Tinkoff Bank founder Oleg Tinkov, the British government’s website reports.
According to the British government’s document, sanctions against Tinkov, which include freezing of assets, a ban on providing trust services and entry to the country, have been lifted.
“This entry has been removed from the consolidated list and is no longer subject to sanctions that include asset freezing and a ban on the provision of trust services: Oleg Yurievich Tinkov (ID 15041),” the note to the sanctions list reads.
The document does not specify the reason for lifting the sanctions.
British sanctions against Tinkov
Sanctions against Oleg Tinkov were imposed in March 2022, shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Tinkov appealed to the British Foreign Office to lift the sanctions.
British billionaire and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson and Russian politician Mikhail Khodorkovsky also appealed to the government in London to lift sanctions against Oleg Tinkov, DW reports.
Tinkoff Bank, created by the businessman and sold to billionaire Vladimir Potanin’s structures after the war, is still under restrictions.
As a reminder, on May 3, billionaire Tinkov announced that he was emigrating from Russia. Banker Oleg Tinkov, a billionaire and one of the richest men in the world, emigrates from Russia and takes his brands with him so as not to “stain them with the blood of Ukrainians and Russian soldiers.”
