Almost a year ago, the British made a Wolfram machine called Brimstone for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but it has only just become known
This development can be modified with the installation on the chassis of the wheeled armored vehicle Boxer
At the moment, the Ukrainian Armed Forces may have several dozen Wolfram mobile launchers for Brimstone guided missiles, made on the basis of the Supacat vehicle with a six-seater chassis.
Although this is an improvised development, created from improvised elements – a chassis, a launcher and a civilian power generator – the Wolfram missile system has also become a regular weapon of the British army, and it is quite possible that export orders for such a weapon system may soon be received. This is stated in the publication of the British edition of The Independent.
This news is important because until now there was no evidence that the Brimstone missiles in the Armed Forces could already be fired from a specialized launcher. It was believed that improvised launchers based on Gazelle vehicles, with a “guerrilla” level of modification, were used to launch such missiles.
However, it is interesting that the data on the very fact of developing a specialized installation for Brimstone as part of the Wolfram project was publicly available as early as September 2022. For example, as the Army Technology portal already clarified at the time, the Supacat HMT 600 was used as a platform, and a standard MBDA installation with 8 launch cells was used to launch the Brimstone missiles.
There was no guidance equipment on the vehicle itself, as this is not required by the characteristics of the Brimstone missile, which is equipped with a millimeter-range radar homing head with a range of up to 25 kilometers.
At the same time, the authors of Army Technology assume that such a development within the framework of the Wolfram project may receive its own modification, in particular, with installation on the chassis of the Boxer wheeled armored vehicle. Moreover, the Brimstone with a 6.3 kg warhead can be a versatile tool on the battlefield, including for destroying enemy tanks. This gives such weapons the appropriate flexibility to perform various tasks.
