The UK showed the Challenger 2 TES Megatron tank in a modification for military operations in urban areas

This month, the United Kingdom demonstrated the Challenger 2 main battle tank in the Theater Entry Standard (TES) modification. The combat vehicle was nicknamed Megatron.

The Challenger 2 TES Megatron is an advanced modification of the third-generation Challenger 2 conventional tank. This version of the combat vehicle is designed for military operations in urban areas and largely repeats the design of the American M1 Abrams in the Tank Urban Survival Kit (TUSK) modification.

The United Kingdom first introduced Challenger 2 TES Megatron in the summer of 2013. The latest version debuted in July 2016 at the Tank Fest event in Bovington. The front of the tank is equipped with Chobham armor, and dynamic protection is installed on the sides.

Like the regular Challenger 2, the Megatron is equipped with a single 120 mm L30A1 rifled cannon. In addition, the tank received a digital fire control system, night vision system, radiation protection and an auxiliary power plant to provide power to electrical systems when the main engine is off.

Another feature of the combat vehicle is the presence of Brid Table antennas. The system is designed to combat improvised explosive devices. It blocks radio signals that allow remote detonation of bombs.

Challenger 2 TES Megatron was demonstrated at the Lulworth Range. The event was attended by many UK officials, including Secretary of State for the Armed Forces James Heappey, Chief of the General Staff Patrick Sanders and Chief of the Defense Staff Sir Antony Radakin.
