The Armed Forces of Ukraine told how to use the high-precision AGM-114 Hellfire missile

In the Armed Forces of Ukraine, AGM-114 Hellfire has 100% efficiency, although its use differs from the classics

The AGM-114 Hellfire missile is one of the main missiles in the arsenal of attack helicopters, such as the AH-64 Apache, in many countries. But the fact that the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not yet have modern helicopters does not prevent the use of this precision weapon.

And, according to ArmyInform, which managed to talk to the operators of the RBS-17 system, which uses AGM-114 Hellfire missiles. We recall that they were transferred from Sweden and Norway, where they are used as anti-ship, or rather anti-ship, systems.

According to the soldier with the call sign “Banker,” the use of the system itself is not much different from how it is used in the armed forces of Norway and Sweden, except for the targets. Thus, the calculation is divided between the launcher itself, which is manned by three people, and the laser illuminator, which is operated by two soldiers.

The illuminator itself is necessary for the AGM-114 Hellfire with a semi-active laser homing head to hit the target being irradiated by the laser. To do this, the soldiers with the illuminator must not only be on the front line, but also have a direct line of sight to the target, as well as reliable communication with the launcher.

The launcher itself is located in the depths of the positions, several kilometers away, and operates in the mode of firing from a closed position. After the target is illuminated, the missile is launched at a range of up to 8 km, and, depending on the range, flies at an altitude of 100-400 meters and hits the target from a mountain.

As noted, the system is 100% effective and all AGM-114 Hellfire hit their targets. As for the latter, these are usually enemy firing positions, dugouts, or lightly armored vehicles, as they use missiles with high-explosive warheads.

But there are versions with a cumulative warhead, which is necessary to destroy tanks, and a thermobaric warhead to destroy manpower in shelters.
