The US Department of Defense has ordered AMRAAM missiles for Ukraine

The Pentagon signs a $192 million contract to supply medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM) to Ukraine. This was announced on August 31.

Under the contract, the US defense company Raytheon Missiles and Defense will purchase AMRAAM missiles from various sources. The number of missiles to be transferred has not yet been disclosed. The works are to be completed by November 29, 2024.

This is not the first order of AMRAAM missiles from the Pentagon for Ukraine. In June 2023, the U.S. Department of Defense signed a $1.15 billion contract to manufacture missiles, the AMRAAM telemetry system, spare parts, and engineering and technical support for production. Production is expected to be completed by January 31, 2027.

The AIM-120 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) is an American medium-range air-to-air guided missile designed for air combat in various weather conditions. The AMRAAM is also used in the Norwegian-American NASAMS air defense system.
