Former U.S. President George W. Bush recalled a story that helped him better understand the character of Russian President Vladimir. Putin. The former president said this during the Yalta European Strategy forum, which took place on September 8-9 in Kyiv, Yevropeiska Pravda reports.

“He saw my terrier and said: “Is that a dog?”. Then in Moscow, he offered to show me his dog. I agreed, and he showed me a big dog, saying that he could easily handle mine. I was surprised and said that this offended me. To which Putin only asked, “Why?” Bush Jr. said.

The former U.S. Ambassador believes that this story is very revealing for understanding Putin’s character.

“He always wants to demonstrate his strength. Instead, he saw Russia as a weakened state, and so he was offended by the whole world,” said Bush Jr.

George W. Bush suggested that support for Ukraine would decline after the US presidential election.

“There are isolationist tendencies in both parties. So it is important that someone explains to Americans why Ukraine is important. If Ukraine falls, what will be the fate of its neighbors, particularly Poland or Romania? And finally, I have one more thing to say. Glory to Ukraine! And hold on,” he said.
