For the first time in history, a missile defense system based on Patriot is being installed over Warsaw

Polish National Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announces the deployment of a Patriot-based missile defense system over Warsaw. The duties will start on October 6.

At the airport in Warsaw’s Bemowo district, Blaszczak met with soldiers of the 37th Air Defense Squadron, who will begin duty on elements of the Patriot air defense system.

“We are participating in a historic event, a groundbreaking event. For the first time in history, Warsaw is getting missile defense,” the minister said.

“I have restored air defense after a long break, but for the first time in history, missile defense is using very modern equipment – I think the most modern equipment in the world, that is, the Patriot system. Tomorrow, we will start the duties,” Blashchak added.

  • The Telegraph wrote in March that the Polish authorities are working to make their ground army the largest in Europe. At the time, it was noted that the Russian invasion of Ukraine forced Poland to make a real revolution in the defense sector. The Poles plan to spend 4% of GDP on the army, which is twice the NATO norms.
