What are the characteristics of the Bohdana self-propelled gun system in the Tatra 8×8 chassis version (video)

What are the advantages of this artillery system, first of all, mentioned by the soldiers of the Ukrainian Defense Forces

In September 2023, we received the first feedback from our military on how the 155-millimeter self-propelled artillery system 2C22 “Bogdan” of domestic production performs in intense combat. Our defenders noted its maneuverability, high level of automation and accuracy, but also hinted at the need to finally install a loading machine.

Now, the press service of the National Association of Defense Industry Enterprises of Ukraine (NAUDI) has decided to disclose the full current specifications of the 2S22 Bohdan self-propelled artillery system in the Tatra 8×8 chassis version on its Facebook page, and these specifications are as follows.

The firing rate of the 2S22 Bohdan is 5 rounds per minute, with a 20-round ammunition load and a range of up to 40-42 kilometers. The horizontal angle of rotation of the cannon is from -30 to 30 degrees, the angle of elevation of the cannon is from -5 to 65 degrees.

It is interesting that the speed of this self-propelled vehicle on the highway is 80 kilometers per hour, with a range of 700 kilometers. It takes 1.5 minutes for the artillery unit to move from the transport position to the combat position and vice versa.

“Speaking about the quality of the artillery unit of the SAU, the military notes its high accuracy and good maximum range of fire. The Defense Forces also note the high level of protection of the cabin, which protects gunners from bullets and shrapnel,” the NAUDI press service adds.

The association also reminds that the developer of the 2S22 Bohdan is the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Tool Plant (a member of NAUDI), where the main components of the Bohdan artillery unit, including the barrel of the new howitzer, were actually designed and manufactured.

In turn, as Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian Armor is working on armoring the chassis of the Ukrainian Bohdan self-propelled artillery system, which is equipped with an armored cabin with anti-tank and anti-shrapnel protection.

Vladyslav Belbas, the company’s CEO, told Apostrophe TV’s Security Talks program that the 2S22 Bohdana self-propelled artillery system is currently being produced in several versions to enable faster delivery of these systems to the Defense Forces.
