Turkish ship hits a mine in the Black Sea off the coast of Romania – Reuters
On Thursday, October 5, a Turkish cargo ship struck a mine in the Black Sea off the coast of Romania, but sustained minor damage.
This was reported by Reuters.
It is noted that this happened at 12:20 Kyiv time near the mouth of the Danube, 11 nautical miles north of the town of Sulina, near the entrance to the Sulina estuary.
The vessel later anchored for a short period of time to assess the damage. Almost 3 hours later, the ship resumed its movement.
“This was one of the first incidents in several months involving a vessel hitting a sea mine. Insurers have categorized the Black Sea as a high-risk area, and floating mines remain a danger,” the statement said.
A source in the Ukrainian government reportedly confirmed that the ship had hit a mine, adding that it was “probably a World War II mine or landmines that were left there last year.”
On September 20, the cargo ship Seama exploded in the Black Sea at a distance of about 40 km from the Romanian coast, probably due to a collision with a mine. The crew was rescued.
