ATACMS attack on Luhansk airfield: at least five helicopters hit (satellite photos)

Ukraine’s defenders hit at least five enemy helicopters at the Luhansk airfield with ATACMS missiles.

Satellite images in support of this were published on the social network X (Twitter) by the user Tatarigami_UA, who calls himself a Ukrainian officer in the reserve.

“Visuals from Planet Labs imagery in our possession show that at least 5 helicopters have sustained varying degrees of damage. There is a possibility that other airfield vehicles were also damaged, but current resolution makes it difficult to confirm,” he wrote.

According to @Tatarigami_UA, images from October 18 show traces of explosions.

These traces are new, because they are not present in the images from October 10.

“The affected area is large and there appears to be a crater. However, we cannot confirm whether this was solely the result of a missile strike, helicopter detonation, or a combination of both,” @Tatarigami_UA writes.

At the same time, as the author of the publication notes, many helicopters continue to be parked at the airfield, just like at the ATACMS-affected airfield in occupied Berdiansk.

“As a result, the attacks on both Berdiansk and Luhansk were successful, despite the fact that they were protected by different air defense systems,” he added.

As a reminder, on the morning of October 17, the Armed Forces StratCom reported that the Defense Forces had successfully attacked helicopters and equipment at Russian occupation forces’ airfields near occupied Luhansk and Berdiansk at night. On the same day, the Special Operations Forces stated that the strikes destroyed nine helicopters, an air defense launcher, and an ammunition depot.
