Advanced air defense systems MANTIS with a rate of fire of 1000 rounds/min will be deployed on the Slovak-Ukrainian border
The Slovak Armed Forces received two batteries of MANTIS anti-aircraft artillery systems from Germany. They were handed over by the Bundeswehr at the air base in Nitra, which is located 90 kilometers from Bratislava.
One battery includes six 35-mm guns, a fire control center and two air target detection modules. In addition to the two MANTIS batteries, the Bundeswehr handed over five radars capable of detecting targets at a distance of 100 km to the Slovak army. All weapons and training services were paid for by Berlin.
The systems received from Germany will be deployed on the Slovak-Ukrainian border to provide protection against Russian missiles and drones. The range of MANTIS targets is 3 km. The system fires 1,000 shots per minute.
It is worth noting that Berlin promised Bratislava to hand over MANTIS in December last year. Thus, almost a year had passed before the delivery of the systems. This suggests that Germany is transferring air defense systems to Ukraine in the shortest possible time by defense industry standards.
