Programming in Catholic countries: Pope Francis urges children to “code”
Polish entrepreneur Myron Myroniuk, founder of Cosmose AI, has launched a global project called Code with the Pope to engage more children in computer programming.
This initiative was supported by Pope Francis, who urged children to “code” more. Myroniuk hopes that this will attract the attention of Catholic countries. Initially, the program will be available to students aged 11-15 from Europe, Africa, and Latin America. After 60 hours of training, children will be able to master the basics of the Python programming language.
The World Economic Forum has published data showing that most of the fastest growing professions are related to technology. However, a severe global shortage of technical skills threatens to leave 85 million jobs unfilled by 2030.
Myroniuk believes that expanding access to high-quality programming education is a critical need, especially for low- and middle-income countries, including Catholic countries.
The program will be presented not only in Spanish, English, and Italian, but also in Polish, given the Catholic orientation of the initiative.
Myron Myroniuk will meet with the Pope in the Vatican, although he does not expect the Pope to become an active student and learn to program.
