Viber in Ukraine improves user security with a new feature

Viber has started testing its newest feature, Subscriber Identification, in Ukraine, which aims to protect citizens from fraud and phone spam.

During incoming calls, the messenger will classify the caller as being involved in spamming and, if suspected, notify users with a special indicator icon. After that, the subscriber can either hang up or answer the call.

The new feature determines the likelihood of spam based on a variety of factors, including data on previous spam calls from other messenger users. The Viber team encourages subscribers to report spam calls by clicking on the “Complaint” button to improve the system.

The feature is currently being tested and will gradually become available to users on Android devices with Viber 21.1 and later. The service will be provided free of charge after the trial period is over.

The new feature is designed to complement current security features such as end-to-end encryption, two-step authorization, PIN protection for important chats, and others.
