Alienware unveils the world’s largest keyboard and mouse (video)
Alienware has made replicas of its peripherals – the Alienware AW420K mechanical keyboard and the AW720M gaming mouse – that are 14 times larger than the original. This is reported by Gadget Tendency.
During this experiment, Alienware used a variety of materials, including PVC tubing, elastic, and even metal pieces from a tape measure, to replicate the precision and feel of mechanical switches for each of the keyboard’s 84 keys. The result was the creation of the world’s largest mechanical keyboard, over 5 meters long. The entire manufacturing process using 3D printing took three days, and each mechanical switch was made to order. Even a single space bar weighs about 10 kilograms.
The company also put its extraordinary mouse and keyboard to the test by inviting five world-class DOTA players from Team Liquid to try playing with these giant devices. This exercise turned out to be extremely difficult, given that it took five people to control even one mouse.
The journalists who decided to try the giant keyboard for text work were able to type 14 words per minute with 88% accuracy, even on the first try.
