In the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s training in France, soldiers are prepared for the smell of corpses on the battlefield by scattering animal bodies in the trenches and attacking them by surprise in the middle of the night.
This is stated in the Politico article.
According to the French officers, in addition to military tactics, Ukraine asked France to prepare future soldiers for harsh combat conditions and to operate in a cold, noisy environment deprived of sleep.
The corpses of dead animals are scattered in the trenches so that Ukrainians get used to the smell of death. French troops are also resorting to sudden night attacks, the publication says.
“When they arrive at the front, there is bound to be a shock, and my role is to limit that shock,” said Captain Xavier, one of the instructors.
The French instructors also use artillery and grenades to simulate air strikes and observe how Ukrainians react to wounded soldiers.
