China launches the fastest Internet – up to 1.2 TB/s
China has launched the world’s fastest fiber optic trunk line connecting Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou, reports Firstpost.
This line, which is over 3,000 kilometers long, has a bandwidth of 1.2 TB/s, which is three times faster than the closest competitor in the United States.
The new network can transmit “the equivalent of 150 movies per second,” which will support innovative network structures and experimental trials.
All of the system’s software and hardware was made in-house, and the technical research team excelled at everything from routers and switches to fiber optic connections, developing a technology to combine multiple to increase bandwidth.
Most backbone Internet networks in the world operate at speeds of only 100 Gbps. Even the United States has only recently completed the transition to the fifth generation Internet with a speed of 400 Gbps.
