Incident in Hawaii: US Navy plane crashes into shallow water (video)

On Monday, November 20, a U.S. military plane took off from the runway at a Marine Corps base in Hawaii and ended up partially submerged, landing in shallow water.

This was reported by Hawaii News Now.

“A large U.S. military aircraft crashed into the shallow waters of Kaneohe Bay after flying over the landing strip at a Marine base in Hawaii,” the article says.

It is noted that the incident occurred during the landing of a P-8 Poseidon aircraft. After the fall, it could be seen partially submerged in shallow water.

Authorities confirmed that there were nine people on board the plane. All of them reached the shore unharmed. According to the military, the crew was conducting a routine training exercise at the time.

Peter Foreman, an aircraft construction expert, said that the runway at Kaneohe is shorter, and that bad weather and wind could also have played a role.

“The pilot probably didn’t put the airplane on the runway where he wanted it. It’s probably a combination of all of those factors together,” Forman said.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

The Boeing P8 Poseidon is a military surveillance and patrol aircraft. It is based on the civilian Boeing 737-800ERX. It has a lengthened fuselage, new wing and tailplane, and an improved electronic equipment system. The aircraft entered service with the U.S. Navy in 2013. It is also used by the navies of Australia, India, Great Britain and Norway.
