A cargo ship carrying grain from Ukraine runs aground in the Bosphorus, traffic through the strait is blocked
Traffic in the Bosphorus Strait was temporarily suspended after the ALEXIS ship, carrying cargo from Ukraine to Egypt, went off course due to a technical malfunction and ran aground. The incident occurred near Istanbul’s Haydarpasa breakwater, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing CNN Turk.
According to the Turkish Coast Guard, high-speed tugs, rescue boats and a group of divers were sent to the scene. The ALEXIS vessel is 229 meters long.
This event is particularly important in the context of the tense situation with grain supplies from Ukraine after Russia withdrew from the grain deal. The National Bank of Ukraine takes into account the stability of sea routes in its forecasts, envisaging an average monthly supply capacity of about 7 million tons of agricultural products, which is important for supporting exports to Ukraine’s traditional markets.
