A MiG-31K fighter jet, which can carry Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, caught fire in Belarus
At the airfield in Machulyshchy, Belarus, a Russian MiG-31K fighter jet broke down due to a fire.
What is known
On December 13, three planes arrived in Belarus from Russia. One of them caught fire on December 25. This was reported by the Belarusian monitoring group ‘Belarusky Gayun’. According to their data, the fighter jet failed due to an engine fire.
The extent of damage to the Russian fighter has not yet been specified. There is also no information on how disabled it is. The aircraft with registration number RF-95194 was damaged.
The MiG-21 is a carrier of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, which can reach speeds of more than Mach 5 (6174 km/h) and is a modification of the Iskander ballistic missile. The air defense system of Ukraine cannot shoot down such missiles. However, Russia uses them very rarely.
