A new blow to Russia: 50 drones attack power substations and refineries
On the night of April 19-20, Ukrainian drones attacked several regions of the Russian occupier country. The aggressor’s Ministry of Defense whines that a total of 50 drones were spotted and most of them were allegedly shot down. However, the vivid footage of the fires shows the opposite: there are hits on refineries and power substations.
Russians complain that the attack caused damage in eight regions. The most affected are the children:
- Belgorod region: 26 drones were allegedly shot down there, but a power substation was damaged as a result of the attack.
- Bryansk region: 10 UAVs were allegedly shot down here, and a power substation was damaged.
- Smolensk region: one drone caused a fire at a refinery.
- Kaluga region: another UAV damaged a power substation.
In addition, photos of a burning oil depot in the village of Kardymovo, Smolensk region, have appeared. Smoke and fire are visible for kilometers.
Although Russia claims to have successfully shot down the drones, the attack shows that Ukraine has the ability to strike deep into the enemy’s rear. This can significantly affect the course of the war.
Drone attack on Russia
On the night of April 18, Russia claimed a combined air attack on its territory, which it believes was carried out by Ukraine. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the AFU allegedly used Tochka-U missiles, Vampire MLRS, drones and balloons with explosives.
In response to the refinery attacks, Bashneft has taken steps to protect its refineries from drone attacks. For this purpose, the enterprises will be closed with special nets.
However, as the head of Bashkiria, Radiy Khabirov, notes, this is only a “half-hearted solution” that cannot guarantee complete protection against drone attacks. Bashkir authorities seek help from the military to obtain air defense systems to protect oil refineries.
Earlier, the Informer wrote that a drone crashed into a Gazprom building in Belgorod.
