The first police electric car was unveiled last weekend at the World Defense Exhibition in Riyadh. This Lucid Air differs from the usual black-and-white livery of the Saudi Arabian police and a drone landing pad installed on the roof, hidden in a special box. It opens automatically, after which the drone is ready to launch. Over the next 10 years, Lucid will supply 100 thousand of these vehicles to local law enforcement agencies.
Back in 2022, the American company Lucid, which produces luxury electric vehicles, signed an agreement with the Saudi authorities to supply “green” cars. It’s also worth noting that 62 percent of Lucid’s shares are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), which has invested $10 billion in the automaker. The local government, with the help of Lucid, intends to make Saudi Arabia a center for the production of electric vehicles, and by the end of the decade to increase the production of such cars to half a million units per year.
Lucid Air electric cars began to be assembled in Saudi Arabia last fall using components supplied by the company’s main plant in Arizona. З того моменту з конвеєра зійшло приблизно 800 машин.
Today, Air is available in four versions. The most affordable is the mono-drive Pure with a single 436-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle and a battery with a capacity of 88 kilowatt-hours. Such an electric car accelerates from a standstill to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 4.5 seconds, travels 660 kilometers on a single charge, and costs 77.4 thousand dollars.
The more expensive ($ 110,900) twin-engine modification of the Grand Touring has a return of 1065 horsepower and travels 719 kilometers. And at the top of the range is the Air Sapphire worth 249 thousand dollars. The sedan is equipped with a three-engine system with a capacity of 1200 hp and accelerates from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in 1.86 seconds.
It is not known which version of the Lucid Air was used as the basis for the police car. There is no information about changes in the cabin and special equipment yet.
