A super-effective solution for kamikaze drones: armored vehicles loaded with Switchblade or Hero-120

Interesting solutions for the modern battlefield

Today, a number of the world’s armies are interested in the appearance of such a model as ammunition barrages among the nomenclature of their weapons – and defense companies are responding to this trend by creating new models and platforms.

So, at the AUSA-2022 exhibition, which took place from October 10 to 12 in the USA, the American companies AM General and Flyer Defense demonstrated new versions of vehicles from their lines, which are equipped with launchers for so-called ‘kamikaze drones’, the publication says The War Zone.

AM General offers customers the Blade Edition system, based on the HUMVEE Saber vehicle and developed together with the drone manufacturer AeroVironment and the manufacturer of remotely controlled modules Hornet Defense.

Such a vehicle will be equipped with launchers for Switchblade barrage ammunition – ten cells in total for the anti-tank Switchblade 600, four more for the lighter Switchblade 300.

In addition, the vehicle will also be equipped with a Hornet Air Guard Remote Controlled Weapon System turret, equipped with a small radar, electro-optical and infrared cameras and a 40-mm Heckler&Koch GMG automatic grenade launcher with air-detonation ammunition, which will primarily be used against drones – the automatic turret ‘can ‘ to automatically warn the operator about the detection of an enemy UAV.

At the same time, the Flyer Defense company offers a machine based on the F72-U with a launcher for barrage ammunition Hero-120 – but compared to the previous model, everything here is somewhat more modest – the launcher will have 10 cells, but only four will have barrage ammunition ready for combat, the other six – for storage only.

The featured model is also equipped with a 5.56x45mm M249 machine gun on the passenger side swivel mount.
