The Russian Armed Forces are transferring another large unit to the older T-62M. At the beginning of the full-scale war, the 59th Guards Separate Tank Regiment was equipped with various versions of the T-72.

This was reported by OSINT researcher Naalsio, who studies the Russian army and its losses.

The researcher established from the video of November 11, 2023, that the T-62M tank of the model year 2022 was recorded in the area of occupied Severodonetsk. The vehicle, numbered 486, belongs to the 2nd detachment of the 9th company of the 59th Guards Tank Regiment of the 144th Guards Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District of the Russian Federation. In the video, the tank is pulling an armored repair and recovery vehicle BREM-1.

The analyst also states that as of February 2022, the 59th Tank Regiment was armed with T-72B and T-72B tanks of the 1989 model. In 2023, they received various models of T-72AV, T-72B3 and B3 of the 2022 model year, T-72B of the 2022 model year, and now T-62M of the 2022 model year.

The T-62M of the 2022 model is a modernization with the additional installation of the Kontakt dynamic protection and another 1PN96MT-02 sight. The Russian army started using older tanks because of the heavy losses of more modern vehicles.
