AI defeats a pilot in a real air battle in 90 seconds

Specialists of the China Aerodynamic R&D Center conducted an unusual experiment. They organized a real air battle between AI and a military pilot. According to SCMP, the battle involved small model airplanes rather than fighters.

The AI response to the pilot’s actions was lightning fast. Throughout the battle, the model aircraft controlled by AI algorithms was in the tail of the enemy. The second model was remotely controlled by a real ace. He used several tactics to deceive the AI (luring, simulating a sharp fall down, sudden changes in flight direction and speed), but all of them were unsuccessful. Artificial intelligence easily calculated the possible actions of its opponent. The air battle took 90 seconds. The military pilot failed to deceive the neural network.

According to the authors of the experiment, AI has every chance to become the king of the sky. The computer is not threatened by overloads. Its reaction to enemy actions is instantaneous. The machine calculates a lot of moves playfully. At the same time, unlike a pilot, it does not worry about its safety when performing risky aerobatics.

By the way, similar experiments are conducted in the USA. In February, Lockheed Martin engineers conducted a test flight of the F-16 fighter jet. It stayed in the sky for 17 hours. All this time, the aircraft was controlled by AI.
