Allows you to “get into” Monet’s painting: Google updates tool for creating art selfies using AI

Google’s art selfie feature, known since 2018, has received a significant update. Now it allows you not only to find your double from a painting, but also to create a photo in the style of popular artists like Monet.

The updated version of the Google Arts & Culture tool now includes 25 different image processing styles. The list is expected to be expanded in the future.

“This feature… invites you to take a selfie by yourself or with friends and choose a style, then see how generative artificial intelligence creates a stylized image around your face, seamlessly blending your selfie with the chosen scenario. See how you’ll look like an explorer climbing Mount Everest, painted like a muse in Monet’s garden, or in armor like a brave medieval knight,” writes Joe Shepherd, Google Arts & Culture product manager, in blog.

In addition to entertainment, Art Selfie 2 also has an educational function, helping users expand their knowledge of art history.

“As you create your image and as you transform your selfie, relevant facts are provided for each style. You can also find related stories, artifacts, and more from our partners. Click ‘more’ on the results screen to explore the art movements, historical periods, or remote locations that inspired your new look,” Shepherd adds.

You can try out Art Selfie 2 in the Google Arts & Culture app for Android or iOS. The tool will be available in the Play section.
